Description
Biscotti.
We make Biscotti, also known as Cantuccini biscuits or Cantucci.
Our bakers bake crunchy twice-cooked Italian almond biscuits. They can also contain pistachios, hazelnuts, chocolate chips and fruits.
Our recipe consists of only the best and freshest ingredients.
Who invented Biscotti?
Cantuccini biscuits were first created in the Tuscan city of Prato in the sixteenth century.
Antonio Mattei was a pastry chef from Prato and he was responsible for popularising Biscotti in the mid-nineteenth century.
Mattei called himself ‘the cantucci-maker’ and put a sign with this nickname above his shop.
Thanks to Mattei, Biscotti would soon become popular all around the world.
Cantucci comes from the Latin word cantellus, which means slice or piece.
The way that Biscotti are sliced diagonally is said to be influenced by the Romans as Roman soldiers used to slice bread diagonally.
