Description
Almond Cannoli We make a tube-shaped Sicilian pastry which we then fill with almond flavoured cream.
We coat each end with flaked almonds before dusting the Cannoli with icing sugar.
Our recipe consists of only the best ingredients.
Who invented Almond Cannoli?
Cannoli were first made and eaten more than a thousand years ago.
They were first created on the island of Sicily between the ninth and eleventh century.
Some people argue that Cannoli were first invented in Caltanissetta during Arab rule in Sicily.
Other people say that Cannoli were created in Palermo and Messina.
Cannoli with almond flavoured cream is a popular recent variation of the original cannolo.
What does Cannoli mean?
The word Cannolo means ‘little tube’, as it represents the shape of the pastry.
The Cannolo is described as a fertility symbol as the shape of the pastry is phallic.
Cannoli are among the biggest traditions of Sicilian cuisine and are eaten and exported all over the world.
