Who invented Cannoli Siciliani?
Cannoli are incredibly believed to be over one thousand years old.
Their origins are in Sicily some point between the ninth and eleventh century.
Some historians claim Cannoli were first created in Caltanissetta during Arab rule in Sicily. Others claim Cannoli Siciliani originate from the capital Palermo and another major Sicilian city, Messina.
What does Cannoli mean?
The word Cannolo translated means ‘little tube’, which represents the shape of the pastry.
Some claim that the Cannolo is a fertility symbol given the phallic shape of the pastry.
Cannoli are a staple of Sicilian cuisine.
