Description
Pistachio Cannoli. We make a tube-shaped Sicilian pastry which we coat with chocolate inside. The cannoli is then filled with ricotta pistachio cream.
We coat each end with crushed unshelled pistachio nuts before dusting the Cannoli with icing sugar. Our recipe consists of only the best ingredients.
Who invented Pistachio Cannoli?
Cannoli date back more than a thousand years. The consensus is that they originated in Sicily between the ninth and eleventh century.
Some scholars claim that Cannoli were first created in Caltanissetta during Arab rule in Sicily.
Others claim Cannoli originate from Sicily’s capital Palermo and another major Sicilian city, Messina.
Over the centuries, more flavours and fillings were produced to create many different types of Cannoli.
The pistachio cannoli has increasingly become one of the most popular versions.
What does Cannoli mean?
The word Cannolo translated means ‘little tube’, which represents the shape of the pastry.
Some claim that the Cannolo is a fertility symbol given the phallic shape of the pastry.
Cannoli are a staple of Sicilian cuisine and one of the most famous exports from the Italian island.
