Description
Apple Turnover.
We make puff pastry which we fill and bake with an apple and sultana filling.
Our bakers fold over the pastry in order to enclose the filling.
We then supplement with additional flavours.
Our recipe consists of only the best and finely-sourced ingredients.
Who invented Apple Turnover?
Apple Turnovers date back to 1630 in Saint-Calais, in the region of Pays de la Loire in north-western France.
At the time, the people of Saint-Calais were suffering from an epidemic that had raged through the region.
The lady of the town, the Chatelaine, made a pastry with flour and apples in a bid to ease the suffering of the afflicted people. Hence, the Apple Turnover was created.
The Apple Turnover was first recorded in writing in 1753. It has since gone on to become one of the most popular pastries in the world.
National Apple Turnover Day is celebrated every year on July 5.
