Description

Zuppetta.

A Zuppetta consists of an Italian sponge soaked in a strega liqueur syrup.

We sandwich it with puff pastry and two layers of Italian patisserie cream. We then dust it with icing sugar.

Our recipe consists of only the best ingredients.

Where does Zuppetta come from?

Zuppette (plural) was first created in the fifteenth century. Many sources say that it originates from Campania and this is why the pastry is so popular in Naples. It is a staple of Neapolitan cuisine, along with other pastries like the Sfogliatella and Baba.

However, there are some who claim that the pastry was actually invented by the Duke of Parma. He made it as a dessert for the Duke of Milan, Francesco Sforza.

The Duke’s pastry was known as the Torta Diplomatica. This translates as Diplomatic Cake due to these alleged aristocratic origins. The Torta Diplomatica also often includes apricot jam inside, which our Zuppette doesn’t.

Our Zuppette are available in two sizes; small and large. A large Zuppetta is traditionally a square in shape. We cut the pastry in half down the middle for the smaller option.
