Description
Christmas Cake.
We make a traditional English fruitcake with sultanas, raisins, cherries and currants. We soak it in brandy.
Our bakers top the delicious cake with a layer of marzipan and rolled icing.
We decorate the cake with Christmas decorations. You have the option of adding a personal Christmas message written on top.
Our recipe consists of only the best and freshest ingredients.
The origins of Christmas Cake
A plum porridge predated the Christmas Cake several hundred years ago.
Over time fruits and other ingredients began to be added, and from the sixteenth century the cake started to transform into more of a fruit cake.
Spices also started to be added after being imported from the East and Middle East.
In Victorian times, the cake replaced the Twelfth-night Cake as the traditional cake to eat around the Christmas season.
Size of our fruit cakes
Our Christmas Cake at La Rondine are available in two sizes. These are an 8 inch round cake or an 8 by 8 inch square cake.
Also to celebrate Christmas we make mince pies, which you can order via the link below.
