Description

Fruit Flan.

We make a sweet pastry biscuit or sponge base and fill it with Italian patisserie cream.

Our bakers decorate it with mixed fresh fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, orange and grapes.

We finish it off with a glazed gel.

Our fresh fruit flans are all the same size. They are round and 12 inches in diameter. This provides for approximately 14-18 portions depending on the size of the slice.

Our recipe consists of only the best and finely-sourced ingredients.

Who invented the fruit flan?

Fruit tarts date back to at least the sixteenth century when the shortcrust was invented. The Italian crostata, an open fruit tart, was first created during this century.

Fruit tarts evolved from fruit pies, though, which first appeared two hundred years earlier.

The Tatin sisters were the modern creator of the fruit tart. They ran a hotel and restaurant in late nineteenth century France.

However, the flan can be traced back much further than the fruit tart.

Indeed, flans were first created by the Romans. They first made them as a savoury dish before adapting a sweet version.
